When Andrew and I got married in Cuba in January 2003, it was not exactly a traditional wedding (see picture right). We decided not to register for our wedding because we're not a "china pattern" kind of couple. We were shocked at the outcry we received about this, even from our non-traditional broke friends!

In response, Andrew modified his 2002 creation, "The Clark Family Christmas" online database to suit our wedding list. He had generated this database so that his family could exchange Christmas lists with no duplicates.

I got busy entering wedding gifts for us, some with exact items, prices and stores, others with very general criteria like "iron". I liked that I had the option to do either.

The wedding gift list was a hit. Many friends bought the items online and sent them directly to us. Others just bought gift certificates from stores that were on our list a lot. Friends especially liked that they could buy many of the items from multiple stores.

When Andrew modified the database again for my birthday this past April, we realized that we now had 3 viable database models and there was no reason we couldn't make the templates generic so our friends could use them as well. But why stop there? We decided to open it up to the general public and here we are. Why did we call it It's Not The Thought That Counts? Because greedyguts.com was already taken! But let's be honest. Anything someone gives you that you don't want is just a waste of money.

Some facts about us because that's what I always want to know when I go to the "About Us" section... I have been a freelance graphic designer for the past 7 years designing everything from brochures to magazines to websites. I am currently launching a line of handmade invitations and greeting cards (www.amalgamdesign.com). Andrew is a audio programmer in the video game industry (www.pseudointeractive.com) and a freelance musician (www.silvershard.com). We have 2 children and live in downtown Toronto.

This site is for our friends, our families, and any Canadian who knows what they want.

Have fun.
